Unserer Lieben Frau, Kyllburg
Kyll, tributary of the Moselle at river kilometre 183 in Trier-Ehrang.

The Kyll is 128 km long, has headwaters in Belgium, North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate.
In 1276, the Archbishop of Trier, Heinrich II von Finstingen, had the former collegiate church built “in honour of the Blessed Virgin Mary and all the holy virgins”, together with a collegiate monastery, combined with a privilege of indulgence. A document from 1284 names the Cistercian monk Heinrich as the master builder. The cloister is considered one of the most beautiful between Trier and Maria Laach.

Archbishop Diether von Nassau incorporated the parish of Kyllburg and other parishes into the monastery. Balduin of Luxembourg added surrounding parishes in 1349. After the French conquest of the left bank of the Rhine, the monastery was secularised in 1802. The former collegiate church became the parish church of Kyllburg.
Today, the town has about 900 inhabitants, making it one of the 10 smallest towns in Germany. (Source: Wikipedia)
